Well, this comes as a bit of a surprise. Just as the world is getting ready to watch Captain America: Civil War, its directors Joe & Anthony Russo, who are now prepping for Avengers: Infinity War-Parts 1 & 2, have revealed that in all probability, they’re going to change the title of the third and fourth Avengers movies.

Talking to entertainment website UPROXX, the Russos said, “The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.”
The trend of splitting final parts of movie series started with Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows, which worked out really well for the studio - both parts earned a total of $2.3 billion. But then, others started aping this strategy, to decreasing levels of success, with The Divergent Series - Allegiant being the latest culprit ($158 million on a $110 million budget).

{{/usCountry}}This seems to be what the Russos are most concerned with. They don’t want the Infinity War movies to be considered franchise-enders because they aren’t.
“It is misleading,” said Anthony Russo. “The movies are two very different movies,” completed Joe.

Devin Faraci of the movie site Birth.Movies.Death confirms, “So Infinity War is not just a placeholder name until they come up with something better. Infinity War I, I understand, is very Thanos heavy, setting up not only the character (which previous films have failed to do) but also getting him the Infinity Stones (which previous films have failed to do). Infinity War II is going to be the big action finale, with just about every Marvel Cinematic Universe hero showing up.”
