Black Panther is raking it in over the holiday weekend. The Walt Disney Co. estimated Saturday the Marvel Comics superhero movie earned $75.8 million domestically in the US for its opening Friday, the eighth biggest day in industry history.
The scene is no different in India where the film has earned Rs 12.25 crore net. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#BlackPanther witnessed decent growth on Day 2... Thu previews + Fri 5.60 cr, Sat 6.65 cr. Total: ₹ 12.25 cr Nett BOC… Gross BOC: ₹ 15.71 cr. India biz... Note: Hindi + English.” Aiyaary, in comparison, has made Rs 7.4 crore within two days of being released. The film stars Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee.
Internationally, It’s the second-biggest pre-summer launch behind Batman v Superman ($81m), the top single day gross for a solo superhero movie and the biggest single day for a movie not directed by a white male, the eighth-biggest opening day ever and the very biggest single day ever for a non-sequel movie.
Disney now estimates the movie will earn between $190 million and $210 million for the four-day Presidents Day weekend in the US that started Thursday.Besides the strong box office, the movie has been a critical success.

{{/usCountry}}Oprah Winfrey was all praises for the film and the talk show host and actor has called the Ryan Coogler-directed film a “phenomenal” piece of work. The 64-year-old media mogul took to Twitter to laud the Marvel movie calling it a multi-layered masterpiece, which she watched with longtime partner Stedman Graham. “Just saw it with Stedman. It’s Phenomenal!! Layers and layers of it. Wakunda ForEveeeerrrr! #BlackPanther (sic)” Winfrey wrote.
Black Panther is the first Marvel film to be led by a person of colour - Chadwick Boseman - and featuring a virtually all-black cast with Michael B Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira, with Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman being a few exceptions.
Official box office estimates are out Sunday.
