How did The Croods speak to you?
This film really is for the whole family and not just the kids. And look, I’m a pretty emotional guy and I’m in touch with my feelings. I wouldn’t be able to do the work that I’ve selected for myself if I wasn’t.

Did you relate to the story as a father?
Oh, absolutely! I’m a father myself and I think if you care, it’s impossible not to be a protective father because you want your loved ones to be safe.

Do you still miss your childhood?
Oh yeah, my childhood was extraordinary because of my parents. I was raised by a father who was a professor of arts and literature and my mother was a modern dancer, who has issues emotionally. Both aspects informed me — my father gave me an intellectual life and my mother gave me an emotional life and the two worked very well in acting.
