The Conjuring 2, James Wan’s horror sequel has scared away Bollywood competition in its opening weekend at the Indian box office.

The film earned Rs 19.8 crore in its opening weekend while Amitabh Bachchan-starrer TE3N came second with Rs 11.23 crore, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Ryan Reynolds superhero film Deadpool beat Katrina Kaif-starrer Fitoor at the box office back in February and the superhero epic Batman v Superman beat John Abraham’s Rocky Handsome in March.
The Angry Birds Movie beat Ram Gopal Varma’s Veerappan two week ago and X-Men: Apocalypse left Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Sarbjit trailing in the dust.

This trend is likely to grow as the country adds more screens and the audience evolves in its preferences.
