A few days ago we were treated to the ridiculously crazy character posters of the upcoming fantasy epic Gods of Egypt. We should have prepared ourselves for what was about to come. We didn’t. And now we find ourselves at a loss for words because we’ve just seen the first trailer and urge you to do so too.
From the very first frame, this trailer loudly lets the world know that it has no time for logic, intelligence, sanity or reason. The plot is a mess. We challenge you to explain it to us.
What we appreciate, however, is the absolutely stunning visuals director Alex Proyas has got going on here. Proyas, if you remember, is the guy behind classics like The Crow and Dark City. His last movie has the similarly ridiculous Knowing starring Nicolas Cage in one of his better bad performances.

And now we have this. We do not know what to make of it. Sure, they tell us it’s a fantasy in the vein of 300 (we even notice Gerard Butler doing his best ‘This is Sparta’ impression), but the sheer imagination that must’ve gone into this is worth applauding (loudly, accompanied with giggles). Is Nicolaj Coster-Waldau’s character supposed to be the good guy? And Gerard Butler is the villain? It makes no sense!

{{/usCountry}}We get a lot of garbage from Hollywood, but rarely do we get garbage that acknowledges its rancid stink (like this one does). And that makes us extremely excited. It may well turn out to be as horrible as it wants you to believe. But we know better (we think), and something tells us Gods of Egypt is going to be the guilty pleasure of the year.
Alex Proyas’ Gods of Egypt also stars Brenton Thwaites, Chadwick Boseman, Elodie Yung and Geoffrey Rush. The big-budget epic is scheduled for a Febraury 26, 2016 release.
