Watch: Luke Skywalker announces Star Wars Episode VIII, makes our day

Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley and director Rian Johnson just put out a video announcing Star Wars: Episode VIII.

One thing’s for sure. You’re not going to be able to avoid Star Wars for at least the next 6 years. The Force Awakens just sent the entire world into a collective tizzy and before we got the chance to regroup, Disney gave us an official video signaling the start of production for Episode VIII.

Not content with simply settling for a basic announcement, Disney put together a 30-second teaser of new director Rian Johnson picking up production at Skellig Michael in Ireland where, spoiler alert, the last scene of Episode VII was filmed. This isn’t the same footage from The Force Awakens. Instead, it’s from the pre-shoots that took place in September last year.

“That was beautiful,” he continues, ushering in a new beginning for Star Wars. He then goes on to welcome the crew to Episode VIII. Once again, this is footage from last year. Proper principal photography began just this week in Pinewood Studios UK.

This new video also comes with new casting announcement. Joining John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver and most of Episode VII’s cast will be Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

Star Wars Episode VIII arrives in theatres on December 15, 2017. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Gareth Edwards’ spinoff Rogue One, which just wrapped filming and arrives on December 16 this year.
