Eight months after actor Ranveer Singh exited actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani’s Don 3, the controversy surrounding the project continues. In the latest development, Ranveer’s legal team has reportedly submitted a letter to the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA), stating that the industry body should not intervene in the matter and that, if it passes a decision, the actor will seek legal recourse.
According to a Mid-Day report, the letter was submitted during an IMPPA meeting on August 18. The request had reportedly been raised earlier as well, and Ranveer’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, had turned up to attend an August 14 meeting to discuss it. However, the meeting was postponed.
Speaking to us, Nishant Ujjwal, Executive Committee Member of the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) and General Secretary of the Film Makers Combine (FMC), says the body will surely “take action”: “We are a producers’ body, and we are involved in this capacity. Agar koi producer humare yahan complaint karega, toh hum action lenge hi. We’ve the written submissions and facts from both parties. We will hold a committee meeting with our legal team and address the matter next week.”
He adds, “If he (Ranveer) hadn’t understood the importance of IMPAA, as projected by some media, why would he send a written submission? Why did his father and lawyers come to meet the body? Even though that meeting did not take place, his authorised representatives attended the subsequent meeting to deliver a written submission.”

Ranveer Singh was set to be cast in the iconic role previously played by Shah Rukh Khan. However, following success of his latest film, Dhurandhar (2025), Singh decided to exit the project. According to multiple reports, Singh left the film due to creative differences with the makers. Several reports also state that Singh was unhappy with repeated delays in production and the absence of a locked final script.
