Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh blasted aggressive fifties as India reached a massive total against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 clash in Edgbaston on Sunday.
Kohli and Yuvraj’s blitz continued the good work put in by Shikhar Dhawan (68) and Rohit Sharma (91) as Pakistan lost their way against a formidable Indian batting side. Earlier, Pakistan had won the toss and they chose to field but their plans were thwarted by a 135-run opening stand between Dhawan and Rohit. However, the innings was interrupted thrice by rain and the match was reduced to 48 overs per side.
After a slow and cautious middle overs period where Pakistan had conceded just 15 runs in six overs, India were dealt another blow when Rohit Sharma was run-out for 91. However, Pakistan let the initiative slip as Hasan Ali dropped Yuvraj Singh on 8 off Shadab Khan. This gave Yuvraj the license to go for the kill and he got going by slamming a couple of boundaries off Hasan and Wahab Riaz.
Things got worse for Pakistan as Yuvraj as he tore apart Mohammad Amir and Hasan to give India a big boost in the end overs. With Yuvraj stroking freely, Indian skipper Kohli gained in confidence and he notched up his landmark by blasting a four and a six off Riaz to notch up his 40th fifty off 58 balls and his first against Pakistan. In the 46th over, things went horribly wrong for Pakistan as Kohli slammed two fours and a six and Yuvraj notched up his 52nd fifty off 29 balls and 12th against Pakistan.
