They were identified as havaldar Iqbal Singh and sepoy Mandeer Singh.

Intelligence sources said the two were patrolling the LoC when one of them stepped on the mine at 8pm on Friday.

Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta, however, said one soldier was injured.

“A soldier on routine patrolling accidentally stepped on a mine that had drifted due to the rain. He was wearing mine-protected shoes and has fractured his ankle,” he said. The soldier was being treated at Command Hospital, Udhampur.

India has heavily mined border areas in Jammu and Kashmir to thwart infiltration bids by terrorists from Pakistan.
