A 20-year-old woman gave birth in a moving train in Bihar on Thursday but the mother and the child died shortly after.
The woman was travelling with her husband from Delhi to Kishanganj on the North East Express but her health started deteriorating before the train reached Barauni station, GRP officer-in-charge at Kishanganj Mohammad Muzaleem said.
She was given medicines and administered injections by doctors at Barauni station but her condition deteriorated further as the train left Katihar.
She delivered a baby on board the train but both the mother and the child died immediately afterwards, the GRP officer said.
Her husband’s plea that the bodies be allowed to be taken to Kishanganj for the last rites was allowed as the deaths were natural, he added.
