Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced that if voted to power, his government will develop a city named after Lord Vishnu with a spectacular temple inspired by Angkor Vat of Cambodia.
“We will develop the city on a 2000-acre land adjacent to the Lion Safari in Etawah. Chambal ravines have a lot of land. Lord Rama and Lord Krishna were incarnations of Lord Vishnu,” he said while talking to a group of media persons on Wednesday in Lucknow.
Yadav’s comments have come days after deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya kicked off a controversy by saying that the union government might take a legislative route for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.
He had said that a bill might be introduced in the parliament when the BJP-led government would have adequate strength in both the houses.
Akhilesh has invoked Lord Krishna, Lord Ram or Hanuman on several occasions but this is the first time when he talked about a new city in the name of Lord Vishnu.
“A team of experts will be sent to Cambodia to plan the city and the temple which will be a centre for culture and knowledge of our ancient times,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}Angkor Vat is one of the largest religious complexes in the world. It is believed that it was originally dedicated to Lord Vishnu but gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple.
Attacking the BJP, Akhilesh said it was a party which did nothing on the ground.
