An employee of a private laboratory outsourced by the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl while her mother was undergoing treatment at the hospital in Bihar’s West Champaran district, police said.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday, the Bettiah police said the girl, who was taking care of her mother undergoing treatment at Bettiah’s GMCH, was taken to a house outside the hospital premises and sexually assaulted by an employee of a laboratory on Sunday.
Bettiah’s sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Ajit Kumar said the matter came to the fore on Tuesday only after the girl confided in her mother after she recovered.
“The accused was an employee of a laboratory outsourced by the GMCH. He, at times, would administer saline drip to her mother while she was admitted to the hospital. On Sunday, he took the girl to his private accommodation on some pretext and assaulted her sexually,” a sub divisional police officer said.
The man arrested, identified as Ravi Ranjan, a resident of Hardiya Bhuwal in West Champaran, was booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
