Sources said the man’s body will be recovered only in the light of day so that any attempts to reach the body that fell so close to the border fence at night will not be misconstrued as aggression by Pakistani forces. More details on the incident are yet to follow.

Pathankot on alert

The Pathankot area was on high alert on Friday evening, reported PTI, as a massive search operation was launched after a local resident claimed to have spotted four or five armed men in this border district of Punjab.

As many as 250 security personnel including SWAT commandos were deployed in the search operation in the hilly areas located on the border of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, police said.

Pathankot SSP Rakesh Kaushal said the man who claimed to have seen suspicious men provided information after 24 hours. “But we did not take any risk and acted upon the information immediately,” said the SSP.
