Congress-led opposition to attack govt on Maharashtra crisis in Parliament today

Before the start of the proceedings in Parliament, Congress president Sonia Gandhi met senior leaders at her residence to discuss the strategy to be adopted in both the Houses in the wake of Maharashtra developments.

“We will raise the issue of Maharashtra. We will stall proceedings in both Houses. Government is killing democracy from Arunachal Pradesh to Goa, then Karnataka and now Maharashtra,” Congress leader K Suresh told reporters after the meeting.

The Shiv Sena, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress along with other opposition parties will look to corner the government on the issue.

He said the three parties — Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress — will raise the issue of the Maharashtra government formation.

“We will highlight the role of the Maharashtra governor and the manner in which President’s rule was revoked without the recommendation of the Union cabinet and how an illegitimate government was sworn in,” another Congress leader said.

Suresh said Congress will consult other opposition parties to put up a united front.
