A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held by Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi to discuss the alignment of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway expressway. The meeting was attended by Union steel minister Birender Singh, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Gadkari directed the officials of the ministry to coordinate with the officials of the states concerned for conducting a survey and study of possibilities for the projects. He said both projects would serve as corridors of development.

Khattar said that the two expressways will cover a total length of 250 km in the state.

The construction of the proposed expressway through Jind would not only reduce the distance between Delhi and Katra from 727 km to 572 km, but would also serve as a new corridor of development in Haryana.
