In the first major rejig since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office in May 2014, 19 new faces were inducted into the Union council of ministers and some high-profile portfolios were reshuffled.

The new ministers were sworn in on Tuesday by the President at the Darbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan at a ceremony attended by senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Opposition party leaders largely skipped the event.
