Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik on Saturday took to the social media site, Twitter, to criticise the Haryana government for not fulfilling the announcements made for her.
“I fulfilled my promise of winning a medal for the country. When will the state government fulfil the promises made by them?” she asked in a tweet in Hindi.
“Announcements made by Haryana Government after my OLYMPIC MEDAL win were for MEDIA ONLY?” she asked in another tweet in English, addressed to the Haryana chief minister’s office, state sports minister Anil Vij and Union sports minister Vijay Goel.
Notably, the Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government had made several announcements after Malik won the bronze medal in Rio Olympics last year. These included Rs 2.5-crore cash prize as per the sports policy of the state, a government job of wrestling director at Rohtak’s Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) for Sakshi, promotion for her mother working in an anaganwadi and a plot for the family.

However, while the government presented Sakshi a Rs 2.5-crore cheque on the day of her return, the remaining announcements are yet to be implemented.
“They have done nothing on my promotion in the anganwadi department. Neither has Sakshi been given a government job or the promised plot,” the wrestler’s mother Sudesh Malik told HT.
“We are thankful to the government about presenting the cheque on the same day. But what about the rest of the announcements? I have been talking to the CM and the sports minister, but all they are giving is assurance,” she said. “Even the Rs 10-lakh cash prize announced for her coaches has not been given yet,” she added.
The accusations of the grappler come a week after the family of martyr soldier Mandeep Singh had accused the government of delaying the payment of ex gratia. Sepoy Mandeep Singh’s body was mutilated by terrorists after being killed last year during ceasefire violation in Jammu and Kashmir. His family recently warned of approaching Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the state government had “failed to fulfil the promises made by it.”
