JNUSU election 2018 highlights: United Left sweeps all four posts

Celebrations followed as the United Left swept all four posts in the Jawaharlal Nehru University students’ elections. N Sai Balaji of the United Left won the president’s post defeating his ABVP’s Lalit Pandey by 1179 votes. Balaji polled 2161 votes against Pandey’s 982 out of 5185 votes. The Congress’ students wing, National Students’ Union of India finished way behind with 402 votes.The counting had been suspended for over 14 hours on Saturday after some leaders accused the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) of breaking into the counting centre and manhandling election committee members. The united Left bagged all the four posts - president, vice-president, joint secretary and general secretary in JNUSU elections.

N Sai Balaji leads with 1467 votes for president’s post

After counting 3587 votes, United Left (SFI-AISA-AISF-DSF) is leading in all four central panel posts, by 804, 1114, 877, 561 votes respectively. While Left’s N Sai Balaji has 1467 votes for the president’s post, ABVP’s Lalit Pandey has 663 votes. BAPSA and NSUI trail with 483 and 281 votes respectively.

BAPSA bags more votes than NSUI

The latest trends show that BAPSA is getting more votes than NSUI. For the presidential post, RJD’s Jayant is also getting more votes than NSUI. Left Unity won all five councillor seats in school of social sciences and school of languages while ABVP lost all in these three schools.

While Balaji and Amutha from Left unity were already leading in the race for president, vice-president and joint secretary post, latest trends show the Left leading in the general secretary post as well with 1095 votes.

Over 2026 votes have been counted till now. 26 year-old N Sai Balaji, who represents the Left unity, is running for the president’s post, is leading with 891 votes. For the post joint secretary Amutha (Left Unity) is leading with 880 votes.
