Glitches in electronic voting machines were reported from several places as voting for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections began on Monday.
EVM glitches were reported from Unnao, Hardoi and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. EVMs had to be changed at five polling booths in Unnao and two in Hardoi. In Kannauj, at two booths EVMs sent as replacements also malfunctioned. Samajwadi Party MLC Arvind Yadav said he will write to the Election Commission about EVMs not working.There were protests by people in Rawatpur and Kalyanpur against malfunctioning of EVMs.
Voting was delayed at booth number 162 of Malad West in Mumbai after a glitch in EVM was detected, news agency ANI reported.

In Rajasthan, there were 30 complaints about EVMs within the first 40 minutes of polling, which started at 7am, as voters queued outside booths in the 13 or the 25 constituencies of the desert state.
An EVM in booth number 42 stopped working in Deoli under the Tonk-Sawai Madhopur constituency resulting in a delay in voting. Reports about a glitch in an EVM in Ajmer district’s Bhinai also came in.

Polling is underway in 17 seats in Maharashtra, 13 each in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, eight seats in West Bengal, six each in Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, five in Bihar, three in Jharkhand and one seat in Jammu and Kashmir.
