BHOPAL: Madhavi Raje Scindia, mother of union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, died on Wednesday morning at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), her family said.
She died at about 9.28 am at the hospital, where she was undergoing treatment for the past few months.
“It is with profound sadness that we wish to inform that Rajmata (Madhavi Raje Scindia) is no more. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia’s mother and the Rajmata of the Gwalior royal family, Madhavi Raje was under treatment at AIIMS, Delhi over the last few months,” a statement from Scindia’s office said.
Jal Vilas Palace officials said she will be cremated in Gwalior on Thursday.
Madhavi Raje Scindia was born into Nepal’s royal family and married Madhavrao Scindia in 1966. Her grandfather, Juddha Shamsher, was the Prime Minister of Nepal from 1932 to 1945.
A philanthropist, she was involved in charity work in multiple fields such as education and healthcare.
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress leaders, among others, have condoled her death.
