Social media was flooded with photos of people wading through knee-deep water and cars negotiating massive waterlogging on arterial roads, including the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.

Commuters reported that cab prices went through the roof within an hour of rainfall and police reported many underpasses were inundated. The weather department reported 23.8 mm of rain between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Traffic advisories asked commuters to avoid Lodhi Road, Moolchand, Ring Road, CR Park, Jasola and Yusuf Sarai as heavy congestion was reported in parts of north and south Delhi due to roads caving in.

The weather department has forecast heavier rain for the Capital this season compared to the previous couple of years but experts say the city is unprepared to tackle the downpour because of silting drains and a poor sewage system.
