Murderous momos? Twitter can’t digest BJP MLA’s tirade against the snack

Not many were impressed with the BJP MLA’s call for a ban on the street snack that has become popular across the country

A Bharatiya Janata Party legislator’s call for a ban on the momo, a street snack, is all that many on Twitter were talking about on Thursday.

“Momos have been found to be the root cause of several life-threatening diseases, including cancer of the intestine,” said Ramesh Arora, a BJP legislator and a lawyer, on Wednesday. He cited scientific evidence to support his claim, referring particularly to the use of monosodium glutamate, a common ingredient in many Asian dishes.

A street snack with origins in Nepal and Tibet, the momo has become popular across India.

Naturally, there were many who were not impressed with Arora’s suggestion.
