The foundation of the metro project, which is being built at a total cost of more than 11,400 crore, was laid by the Prime Minister on December 24, 2016. Speaking at a public gathering on MIT ground, Modi said, “now you have given me the opportunity to dedicate it. It also has a message that plans can be completed on time.”

"This lethargic attitude has also been affecting the development of the country," he said.

“In today's fast-growing India, we have to focus on speed and scale as well. That's why our government has prepared PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan,” the prime minister added.
