The project, to be set up in Balipara in Sonitpur district over 115 acres, is the first big investment secured by the five-month old BJP-led government of Sarbananda Sonowal.

“Patanjali will invest 1200 crore rupees and generate employment for 6000,” state industries minister Chandra Mohan Patowary wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

The unit will manufacture the entire range of Patanjali products from personal care to eatables.

Two years ago, Patanjali began work on its first venture in Assam----a research centre in lower Assam’s Chirang district to breed cows and also manufacture Ayurvedic medicines.

Before coming to power in May, BJP had promised to attract investments to Assam to set up industries and create employment in the state.

Several other big companies have also expressed interest to set up projects in Assam. In coming months Dabur and Mahindra are also expected to ink agreements similar to Patanjali.
