PM Modi's busy Japan visit: In 40 hours, Quad summit and meeting with 35 CEOs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive here on May 23 & will have interactions with business leaders as well as business CEOs in a one-to-one format. Thereafter, there will be an Indian diaspora community event & May 24 is largely devoted to Quad meeting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have 23 engagements, including meetings with three world leaders, in around 40 hours of stay in Japan where he will join US President Joe Biden and prime ministers of Australia and Japan at the Quad summit in Tokyo on May 24.

They said Modi during his visit will have business, diplomatic and community interactions.

“PM Modi will arrive here on May 23 & will have interactions with business leaders as well as business CEOs in a one-to-one format. Thereafter, there will be an Indian diaspora community event & May 24 is largely devoted to Quad meeting,” SK Verma, Indian envoy to Japan told ANI.

“PM Modi will meet around 35 major business leaders from Japan. In addition, there will be few CEOs, chairmen and presidents of the companies who will be independently and separately meeting PM,” Verma added.

Modi will have bilateral talks with Biden and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida during the summit which is taking place amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He will also hold a bilateral meeting with his Australian counterpart.

The forthcoming Quad summit provides an opportunity for the leaders to exchange views about developments in the Indo-Pacific region and contemporary global issues of mutual interest, the MEA had said.

"The leaders will review the progress of Quad initiatives and working groups, identify new areas of cooperation and provide strategic guidance and vision for future collaboration," it added.
