Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday unveiled a 9.5-feet tall statue of great Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and launched a 12km stretch of 32.2 km-long metro rail project in Maharastra's Pune. He took a metro ride from Garware college to Anandnagar metro station to address a rally at MIT ground.
He also shared pictures of him taking the Metro ride along with school children.
The foundation stone of the metro project, aimed at providing world-class infrastructure for urban mobility in Pune, was also laid by the Prime Minister on December 24, 2016. The project is being built at a total cost of more than ₹11,400 crore. Pune Metro is the first project in the country to have Aluminium body coaches, indigenously manufactured under the 'Make in India' initiative.
“It is my good fortune that you had called me for the foundation stone of the Pune Metro and now you have given me the opportunity to dedicate it. It also has a message that plans can be completed on time,” PM Modi told the gathering at MIT ground.

{{/usCountry}}PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for the rejuvenation and pollution abatement of the Mula-Mutha River projects in Pune. The rejuvenation will be done in 9km stretch of the river under the project which will cost more than ₹1080 crore.
Addressing the event, Prime Minister Modi said the statue of Shivaji will inculcate patriotism in the younger generation.
