Traffic was hit on the Shimla-Kalka highway after heavy rains in the past 12 hours triggered landslides on Tuesday. The road stretch connecting Tuttikandi to Dhalli was damaged due to a landslide.

Shimla was lashed by heavy rain, which resulted in flooding of nullahs near Shanan close to Dhalli. The debris that flowed along with the water blocked the road.

Police diverted the traffic via Dhalli and Sanjauli. However, trucks carrying apples were stranded on the bypass for more than 12 hours.

Heavily loaded vehicles are prohibited from plying on the circular road.

“It has been 11 hours and we are stuck here,” said Gharsi Ram, a truck driver from Haryana, who had loaded a truck of apples from Theog for Delhi last evening.

“ The road was opened for light motor vehicles. However, we are not allowing trucks to move forward as it will result in traffic jam,” said SP Omapati Jamwal.
