Seven killed, 26 injured in Shimla bus accident

The accident occurred near Gajerhi, 42 kilometers from Shimla, on the Theog-Hatkoti national highway.

Seven persons were killed after a bus carrying 33 passengers rolled down a gorge near Chaila in Shimla district. The bus was on its way to Tikkar from Shimla.

All the seven persons, including two women, died on the spot, while the 26 others have been injured. The accident was noticed by a car driver who reported the matter to the Theogh police station. The accident occurred near Gajerhi, 42 kilometers from Shimla, on the Theog-Hatkoti national highway.

The injured were shifted to the Theogh civil hospital while those sustained critical injuries have been brought to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla, for further treatment.

Condition of two injured is said to be serious. Police reached the spot and is supervising the rescue and retrieval operation. “So far, exact cause of the accident is not known,” superintendent of police Omapati Jamwal said, adding that the number of causalities could escalate.

The deceased have not been identified yet.
