Hours after the high court directed that elections to the Shimla municipal corporation (MC) be held before June 18, the state election commission notified the election programme for MC polls.
Following this announcement, the model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect.
Election will be held on June 16 and result will be declared on June 17 after counting at district headquarters. Nomination papers will be filed on June 2, 3 and 5. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on June 6 (10 am onwards) before returning or assistant returning officers.
Withdrawal of candidature can be done on June 8, before 3 PM. Subsequently, symbols will be allotted to the contesting candidates by the election commission immediately after withdrawal of nominations.
