At least six people died and eight others were injured, some of them seriously, on Friday after a multi-purpose vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into a 150-feet deep gorge in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Fourteen people, including the driver, were on board the vehicle bearing registration number JK02-AR-8358 when the accident took place at around 11.30am.
“Six passengers died and eight others were injured when a Trax, which was on its way to Chirala from Doda town, plunged into a deep gorge,” Doda’s senior superintendent of police Mohammed Shabir told the Hindustan Times over the phone.
He added that the steering wheel of the vehicle got locked which caused the accident 22km from Doda town in Puneja.
Four among the six dead people have been identified as Yousaf Khan, 80, of Sunar Thawa, Om Parkash, 32, of Bankan Thawa, Fazal Din of Jandani, and Punjab Singh of Bonjwa.
The dead and injured were shifted to the district hospital in Doda by locals and policemen.
