Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after complaining of high fever and dehydration.
The AIADMK chief is currently in stable condition, and is expected to be discharged in a few hours, according to a statement issued by Apollo Hospitals in Chennai.
“Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was admitted to Appolo Hospital, Chennai with fever and dehydration. The Honorable Madam is stable and under observation,” the hospital statement said.
Jayalalithaa, who recently completed four months as the Tamil Nadu CM in her second term, has not been keeping well for some time.
Her health has been a matter of public speculation, especially after her re-election as chief minister in May 2016, as her public appearances have become fewer. Her swearing in ceremony was also cut short, with all the ministers taking oath in two groups of 15 each.
