The Statue of Unity, a towering tribute to India's Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, situated on the banks of the majestic Sardar Sarovar Dam in Gujarat's Kevadia, has witnessed a remarkable surge in its annual footfall. In less than five years since its inauguration, this colossal monument has welcomed nearly 1.6 crore visitors.
The statistics document seen by HT shows that the footfall at the Statue of Unity has consistently increased over the years, barring 2020 when Covid pandemic wreaked havoc across the world.
In the first two months after the monument's inauguration – the Statue of Unity was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Patel's 143rd birth anniversary on October 31, 2018 – the world's tallest statue witnessed a whopping 453,020 visitors, followed by over 27 lakh visitors in 2019. Even in 2020, the year tourism sector was battered by a once-in-a-century pandemic and subsequent movement restrictions, nearly 13 lakh tourists flocked to the Statue of Unity. While the country was still recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, the Statue of Unity saw a footfall of over 34 lakh in 2021.
Last year saw highest to date footfall with 43.8 lakh visitors and 2023 has already recorded 35.9 lakh footfall with more than two months still to go.

Various conferences, including the Directors General of Police (DGs) conference, ambassador's conference, and heads of mission meetings, have been held at this iconic location.
In December 2018, the three-day All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police was organized in Kevadia, and was addressed by Prime Minister Modi. The ministry of external affairs organized a three-day Heads of Missions Conference in Kevadia last year on October 20-22. Prime Minister Modi also participated in the conference that brought together 118 heads of Indian missions (ambassadors and high commissioners) from all over the world.
These events provided a unique backdrop for meaningful discussions and diplomatic endeavours and kept a constant spotlight at the emerging tourist hub as well.
