KOLKATA: A woman, who was travelling with her infant son from Assam’s Guwahati to Alipurduar junction station in north Bengal was raped inside an unreserved coach of Sifhung Express on Saturday night, government railway police (GRP) officials probing the case said.

The two accused, identified as Moinul Haque and N Abdul, both residents of Assam, were arrested by West Bengal GRP hours after the crime was committed and produced before a court in Alipurduar on Sunday.
“Both accused were remanded in police custody for five days. An investigation is on,” Alipurduar’s police superintendent Y Raghuvanshi told repoters.
The woman, a resident of Alipurduar district, boarded the train at Guwahati on Saturday afternoon. She alleged in her complaint that the crime was committed by the two men who boarded the coach at Kokrajhar in Assam, the third last station where the train stops.
“The victim alleged that after other passengers of the coach got down at Fakiragram junction one of the men raped her while the other threatened to throw her child off the running train if she resisted,” a GRP official said on condition of anonymity.
“Despite being in a state of shock, the woman somehow got off the train at Alipurduar junction and ran to the GRP office with the child. The accused were nabbed in less than two hours,” the officer added.
