Axar Patel, Indian cricket team’s left-arm spinner, was on Saturday ruled out of the first three ODIs against Australia. This comes as a shock for the Virat Kohli-led side, which will take on Steve Smith-led Aussies in the first ODI on Sunday.
Left-arm spinning allrounder Ravindra Jadeja has been named in the Indian squad in Axar’s place. The latter suffered an ankle injury while playing football and the BCCI said in a statement that he has been advised rest.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee named Ravindra Jadeja as the replacement for Axar Patel in the team for the first three ODIs in the five-match series against Australia starting tomorrow i.e. September 17, 2017 in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk in Chennai,” the BCCI said.

“Axar sprained his left ankle during a practice session and has been advised rest. The BCCI medical team is monitoring his recovery,” it added.

Jadeja did not figure in the original 16-member Indian squad for the first three ODIs, which was announced on September 10.
The Indian team is without opener Shikhar Dhawan, who has been released from the original 16-man squad to attend to his ailing wife.
