Airport Authority of India and corruption watchdog Transparency International India on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for implementing Integrity Pact in order to bring in transparency in the regulatory body's procurement processes and systems.
"The AAI has planned to spend over Rs 12,000 during the 11th Five Year Plan on infrastructure development of airports.
"AAI officials should use Integrity Pact as an effective tool to ensure clean procurement process and system without compromising any procedure or guidelines by Central Vigilance Commission or the government," AAI Chairman K Ramalingam said after signing the MoU in New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Central Vigilance Commissioner Pratyush Sinha said, "All organisations should exhibit more transparency, fairness, competitiveness and accountability in their procurement process as part of preventive vigilance."
Lauding the AAI for signing the MoU, he said, the success of MoU mainly depends on the implementation of the pact in "letter and spirit".
The CVC has introduced guidelines on Integrity Pact and AAI should effectively utilise this as a tool to ensure a transparent and competitive procurement process to meet the authority's challenge in building high quality infrastructure for the Aviation Sector in time-bound manner, he said.
Chairman of Transparency International India, Admiral (retd) RK Tahiliani, who the signed the MoU on behalf of the watchdog, said AAI is the 20th organisation in the country to have such a Pact with TII and its success depends on its strict implementation.
