The BJP on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed after an inquiry commission's report said activists of his party, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), were involved in the killing of nine persons at Marad in Kerala in 2003.

"I don't see any moral right for E Ahamed to be in the post when his organisation has been named in the findings of the Thomas P Joseph Commission," BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar told reporters in New Delhi.

Based on the commission's report, which was tabled in the Kerala Assembly on Wednesday, the state government has sought a CBI probe into the killings at Marad.

The report said activists of the IUML and the NDF, another Muslim organisation, were actively involved in the killing of nine people, including eight Hindus, at Marad beach in Kozhikode on May 2, 2003.

Javadekar, however, dodged questions regarding the commission's findings that BJP and RSS activists too were responsible for a communal riot in the area in 2002.
