Airlines mull fare hike

Airlines are deliberating on whether to increase passenger fares as the government has increased customs duty on aviation turbine fuel and imposed service tax on air travel.

Airlines are deliberating on whether to increase passenger fares as the government has increased customs duty on aviation turbine fuel and imposed service tax on air travel.

A final decision is yet to be taken.

“We are measuring the impact and would take a decision in a week,” Vijay Mallya, chairman & CEO, Kingfisher Airlines said.

“Airlines are entering low travel (fare) phase and whether fares could be hiked or not need to be studied,” said Arvind Jadhav, CMD, Air India.
