To protest the ban imposed on the screening of ‘India’s Daughter’, the documentary was screened at a village in Agra district on Sunday, International Women’s Day. Activist Ketan Dixit, associated with Stop acid Attack movement here, made the screening possible at Roop Dhan village in Anwalkheda.
“The documentary has been telecast by BBC and is all set for release in US and in such scenario, there is no use banning the screening of documentary in India,” Dixit told Hindustan Times during the screening of the documentary.
“This is the beginning of a series of protest and we will also lodge a protest petition online against this ban. About 60 to 70 villagers gathered to view the documentary which is of 59 minutes,” said Ketan.
Addition district magistrate (execution) Harnam Singh said he was unaware about screening of the banned documentary in Roop Dham village .
“There is no information regarding screening of such a documentary till now,” he told HT on Sunday night.
“The screening of this documentary is banned and if anyone has screened it then required action would be taken,” he said.
The villagers, however, welcomed the screening of the documentary and termed it an ‘eye opener’. Rajveer Singh Parmar, a villager, questioned the logic of banning the documentary which exposed the ‘truth’.
