Union minister Nitin Gadkari had a narrow escape on Wednesday when a piece of cloth got entangled with the rotors of his helicopter seconds before it landed at Haldia in West Bengal.
A large piece of cloth that was placed on the ground ose in the backdraft from the rotor blades as the helicopter was descending. The incident occurred at around 10:30 am when the helicopter was close to the ground.
However, the pilot landed the helicopter without a hitch and the minister was safe.
Later at a function at a biodiesel plant in Haldia, the Union minister for road transport and highways said, "I am safe. But for safety in the future, I shall ask everyone not to place cloths or tarpaulins on the ground."
Gadkari visited the Haldia port for a look at the biodiesel dispensing unit.
He travelled to Haldi from Kolkata.
