In a strongly-worded resolution, the main opposition hit out at the UPA for its “obnoxious corruption, degradation of the economy, and a malignant assault on the federal spirit of our polity” and called the BJP-led coalition, the NDA, the only credible alternative.

Insisting that the UPA-II had no achievements to show on completion of its four years in office, it also sought to puncture the government’s claims that the UPA was able to do a good job on the economic front.

The resolution said the “economist” PM Manmohan Singh had taken over the reins of the country when economic growth hovered at a healthy 8.3% during NDA rule and pulled it down to a “miserable” 5% today.

It also expressed concern over the “whiplash” of unemployment and paralysis in decision-making that had led to reverse flight in investment and hit job creation.

The resolution, moved by former BJP chief Nitin Gadkari, said the resultant indecision, inability and silence of the Prime Minister in the last nine years had cost the country dearly.

Corruption, as seen in 2G spectrum and Commonwealth Games or the Agusta Westland helicopter deal, have led to a huge loss to the country, the resolution said.
