"We receive complaints from citizens regarding contamination and leakages of which leakages in the water pipelines are a major worry for us," said S S Korlekar Chief Hydraulic engineer.

"We have also initiated action against slumdwellers near the water pipelines to plug the leakages. We would like to save at least 20 per cent of the 680 million litres of water that is wasted every day through leakages," Korlekar said.

The four-digit number for the water helpline will soon be finalised after approval from the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).

"We would soon introduce water helpline where citizens can register their complaints and within 24 hours the matter would be resolved. This is part of our Save Water Campaign," Korlekar said.

The main purpose of this workshop is to make citizens understand the importance of saving water. It is a part of the Save Water Campaign, Korlekar said.

"We would exchange ideas for saving water at this campaign. Later this would be conducted at local ward levels," he said.

Apart from posters and banners the civic body is also likely to approach FM channels to spread the message, he said.

Even civic school children would be asked to make drawings to create awareness among youths and the same would would be displayed at the workshop, he added.
