Interacting with local media persons, Keshkar, who originally from Nagpur, said that the Boeing has to remain competitive, and hence the measure of lay-off is being taken. "However, not more than 25 Indians would be affected by the job cut proposal," he added.

The senior official of the Boeing said that even in the face of global meltdown, the aircraft company has received 3,700 orders for the manufacturing of aircraft. He said that the full impact of the economic downturn in the global market would certainly affect the aircraft company. "Recession has affected orders for 100 airplanes given by several countries. But, no order from India has been affected so far," he pointed out. The Seattle-based company currently employs more than 1.65-lakh people in its all over the world operation.

Meanwhile, the company would set up its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) unit soon near the Nagpur airport. The Bhoomipujan of the MRO depot would be performed in June this year. Prior to that, the company would invite bids for the construction of the depot. The bids for the construction of the depot would be finalised by end of March while the project work would be completed by end of next year.

According to him, the MRO in Nagpur would be a profitable business proposition because of low cost of land, labour and construction material in the region.
