The Centre on Tuesday countered Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s allegations over the raid on his office, saying the investigating agency was not acting under its orders.
“The CBI does not function under the government. Gone are the days of the Congress when the CBI used to be misused,” parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu told reporters.
Keriwal claimed his office was searched by CBI sleuths in an act of political vendetta by the Centre, and called Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “coward and psychopath”.
Naidu said, “It has become fashionable for the Delhi chief minister to quarrel with the central government and take the prime minister’s name for everything.”
Other ministers and spokespersons for the ruling BJP defended the CBI raids and hit out against Kejriwal for using “intemperate language” against the prime minister.
“If there are charges of corruption and the CBI acts on it where is the politics in it?” asked Union minister Prakash Javadekar.

“What kind of language has he used against the prime minister of the country,” Kohli told NDTV. “It throws questions on whether he is eligible to hold an high office.”
CBI sources have denied Kejriwal’s allegation saying its officials were raiding the office of his secretary Rajender Kumar in connection with a corruption case.
