A victim, on whose complaint the probe was ordered by the Punjab and Haryana high court, had named the doctors for supervising the alleged acts. The sect has rejected the allegations as false.

The petitioner, Hans Raj Chauhan, was a former sect follower and had alleged that around 400 male followers were castrated in Sirsa in 2000.

A senior CBI officer said the agency quizzed the doctors on their role in the said acts, if they were aware of the alleged castrations and if the acts could have been done at the ‘behest’ of an influential person.

“We may call the doctors again for questioning,” he said, refusing to divulge the revelations made by them on grounds that the probe was at a “sensitive” stage. The two doctors could be questioned in the presence of a few alleged victims and put through lie detector tests, if needed.

The castrations were allegedly performed in two private health facilities after luring the victims via promises of spiritual ‘salvation’.
