GIVING clean chit to former Foreign Minister and Congress leader Natwar Singh in food- for-oil scam, CM Mulayam Singh said here on Tuesday that the UPA Government had been trying to implicate him in the scandal to protect Congress chief Sonia Gandhi. Addressing a gathering in Mau where he distributed unemployment allowance to 25000 youths, Yadav said that Natwar Singh had not committed any crime.
Talking about the Central Government performance, he said that the UPA had failed on all fronts.
The CM also assailed the Centre for putting obstacles in the way of setting up Reliance power project in Dadri. Accusing the Congress of adopting dual policy, the CM said that the UPA government had not given any power project to the State.
The CM also sought a public apology from Delhi CM Shiela Dikshit for terming unemployment allowance as ‘booth capturing’ allowance. He said the Delhi CM had in fact insulted the youths of the State. Yadav said that while the government had been making efforts to improve lot of every section, the opposition parties had ganged up against him. Claiming that the opposition parties had no programme and policy, Yadav said that their one-point plan was to dislodge the SP government. Wooing Muslims, the CM said that the government had declared State holiday on the occasion of birthday of Imam Ali on August 8. Yadav said that Muslims should not be misled by the propaganda of rival forces.
Laying foundation of 20 development schemes in Mau worth Rs 20.71 crore, the CM said that other states should also distribute unemployment allowance. He also said that the government had mobilised its own resources to distribute unemployment allowance and Kanya Vidya Dhan. He said that the Centre had not given funds for these schemes. The CM said that moves were afoot to provide more facilities to weaving community.
