Copying denied: UP Board examinees go on the rampage

A LARGE number of students, taking the UP Board examinations, went on the rampage at an examination centre at Sikandara in Kanpur Dehat, here on Monday. They also pelted the policemen with stones. The reason: They were not allowed to copy in the examination.

A LARGE number of students, taking the UP Board examinations, went on the rampage at an examination centre at Sikandara in Kanpur Dehat, here on Monday. They also pelted the policemen with stones. The reason: They were not allowed to copy in the examination.

The students also set ablaze the bike of a sub-inspector during the violence which continued for more than two hours. Later, they put up a road blockade on the National Highway No 2 for several hours. To contain the mob of students, the police had to resort to lathicharge. The agitating students then dispersed from the National High way.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Sikandarabad police have arrested two students. The centre in-charge Raja Khrishna had lodged FIR against 40 students, in connection with the violence, at Sikandarabad police station on Monday.

According to information, on receiving the complaints of mass copying organised by ‘copying mafias’ who are active during the on-going UP Board high school and intermediate examinations, the examination centre for high school students was shifted from Gurdai College to Gram Vikas college in Sikandara.

Following the shifting of the examination centre, about 48 students did not take the high school examination. On getting the information of students’ protest, sub-inspector Lal Singh rushed to the spot on his motor-bike. As soon as he reached there, the angry students manhandled him and set his motor-bike on fire.

When the circle officer Raghvendra Singh Chauhan reached the spot with heavy contingent of police, the students.

Talking to HT about the incident, SP (Dehat) Akhil Kumar said, “When the students were not allowed to copy in the examination by the manager of the school, they went out of control, resorted to violence and blocked the National Highway No 2 for several hours.”
