Culinary delights for the Year of the Dragon

A multi-cultural country like ours is open to embracing all festivals, even of other countries. So, as the Chinese celebrate their New Year on January 23, a number of restaurants in the Capital also join in the festivities with special menus. This festival is regarded as the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays, as it marks the end of winter. Let’s have a look at the specialities that eateries are offering on the Lunar New Year, which is the Year of the Dragon, according to the Chinese almanac.

Sampan at The Suryaa Hotel
Celebrating the Year of the Dragon, the decor and the theme of the restaurant will be in accordance to the same. There is a special menu that has been designed especially for the festival. The menu includes a wide range of delectable vegetarian and non-vegetarian appetizers, soups, main course and desserts. Some of the dishes include garlic style lobster, crunchy almond prawns, golden fried shrimp balls, diced chicken with sichuan wild pepper, French bean sichuan style, Shanghai seafood noodles. Also try the special lobster for the Dragon’s Year, crunchy almond prawns, egg parcel filled with chicken, and lychee crispies.

The Yum Yum Tree
If you plan to visit this restaurant on January 23, you can enjoy some lip-smacking delights such as dumplings, barbecued pork ribs, soups, Fiery Hunan Chicken, Char Siu Bao (barbecued pork buns), Kung Pao Mushrooms, and Yeoung Chow fried rice. You can savour the Tsing Tao beer to complement the dishes. After the meal, feast on the traditional Chinese Moon Cakes.

The Oriental Bloom
Beginning January 23, you can enjoy a number of activities as part of the celebrations here. As for the menu, on offer would be The Oriental Bloom’s signature array of dim sums and Chinese platters. For the main course, you can choose from a range of dishes, such as, sliced chicken with black mushrooms, shredded lamb, and stir-fried chicken with chilli, to complement the Chinese New Year.

The China Kitchen
This place has a special à la carte menu till January 25 to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Savour dishes such as traditional boiled pork, spring onion dumpling, and black eye cod fish. Royal China Restaurant
When here, choose from fried and steamed dim sums such as seafood dumplings, prawn dumplings along with turnip paste. The meal will also include soups, noodles, rice and desserts such as mud cake with ice cream, and, mango pudding. The dishes will be available between 12 noon and 3.30pm, till February 5.
