The Delhi Police said on Tuesday they have charged The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) executive vice-chairman RK Pachauri with sexual harassment, following a complaint by a former colleague last year.
A chargesheet was filed before metropolitan magistrate Shivani Chauhan.
In the 1,400-page document, the police have charged Pachauri with four counts including sexual assault, harassment and criminal intimidation.
The police are likely to file a supplementary chargesheet shortly, as forensic reports relating to the victim’s phone and Pachauri’s phone and computers are not yet ready, a source with knowledge of the case said.
The police had filed an FIR against him in February last year.
Since then, two women claiming to have been similarly harassed by the TERI chief have come forward, and one man who works with TERI has reportedly complained that he had to quit the environmental institute after senior members of the body pressurised him to have the complainant settle the matter “quietly and out of court.”
Currently on bail, Pachauri has travelled extensively since the filing of the FIR. Recently, he was pulled up by court for failing to meet his bail conditions, but the order was reversed by a sessions court.

During those proceedings, police filed a report stating that there were talks of settlement between the victim and Pachauri.
However, when contacted by Hindustan Times, the woman denied any such settlement proposal. On February 13 last year, an FIR was filed against RK Pachauri for stalking, sexual harassment and intimidation.
