MEMBERS OF Domraj family halted cremation activities at the famous Harishchandra Ghat from 10 am to 2 pm here on Friday in protest against the alleged dowry death of a woman member of their family, Sapna (26), in Meerghat area in Dashashwamedh on August 13.

As per information, Sapna, a resident of Harishchandra Ghat was married to one Jagdishwer Choudhary, son of late Domraja of Manikarnika Ghat, Ishwar Choudhry in year 2004.
The family members of Sapna alleged that since marriage, her in-laws had been torturing the woman for dowry. On the day of Raksha Bandhan, she had also complained to her mother, Dayawati and brothers about the continuous demand for dowry.
On August 13, the parents came to know that Sapna had sustained severe burns in her house. Later, Sapna succumbed to the burn injuries. Sapna’s parents lodged an FIR with Dashashwamedh police station. Cops had arrested three persons including mother-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law in this connection.
Agitated over the delay in the arrest of the husband of Sapna, the family members of Domraja and activists of Bharatiya Janata Party including Radheshyam Chaudhary, Bahadur Chaudhary, Shanker Sahani, Ram Sunder Mishra, Ashok Pandey and Shardanand Pandey staged a dharna at Harishchandra Ghat and halted cremation activities for around 5 hours today.
The family members of Domraja and BJP workers were demanding immediate arrest of the absconding husband of Sapna. Later, after the assurance of senior police officials, the cremation activities were restored at 2 pm.
