Delhi University students have written to Metro Rail Chief E Sreedharan seeking student pass on the lines of that given by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
"We are not asking for free travel, just some concessions for students. We pay Rs 75 for five months for DTC pass and on Metro we have to spend Rs 42 per day, which is very expensive," said Krishna Kaul, team leader of the transport committee of United Students, a students body.
He said the students have requested the DMRC chairman for a rationalised fare pass that only students can use.
Deepak Bora, another member of the committee said, "Our survey on the matter shows that it has become difficult for the students to manage the travel expenses."
DMRC, however, said it is no position to provide concession passes. “We have taken 60 per cent of our budget cost as loan from Japan and are already in debt and in position to give concession to anybody,” said DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal. “Even DMRC employees do not get any concession while traveling in the Metro,” he said.
